Terms of Use

Draft of October 22, 2026

Effective

Draft, being finalized before launch.

The short version

  • The Free plan costs nothing.
  • SealNest has planned Free, Personal and Family plans. Paid subscriptions aren't available yet. Planned launch pricing
  • The Free plan is free for good. Personal and Family are subscriptions through Apple that renew until you cancel, and the yearly plans start with a 14-day free trial.
  • We can't open your vault, so we can't recover it for you. Make an encrypted backup.
  • We can't open your vault, so we can't recover it without your recovery code. Keep it safe.
  • You must be 13 or older to have your own account.
  • Use SealNest lawfully, and don't attack it or anyone who uses it.
  • Your license to the app itself is Apple's standard license. These terms cover the rest.

Who you're agreeing with

These terms are an agreement between you and Slade Curtis, who makes and sells SealNest ("we" and "us").

Your license to install and use the SealNest app is Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies between you and us. These terms add what that agreement doesn't cover: SealNest accounts, sync, sharing, the paid plans, the features that use outside services, the rules for using SealNest, and how either of us can end things. Read the two together.

By using SealNest, or by creating a SealNest account, you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy says what we keep and why.

Your vault, and what we can't do

Your vault is encrypted on your device with a key we never have. That protects you, and it has a cost: we can't open your vault, see what is in it, reset it or get it back for you.

Without an account, your vault exists only on your device and in any encrypted backups you make. If you lose the device, or it breaks, and you have no backup, nobody can get your vault back: not us, and not Apple. A backup opens only with the passphrase you chose. If you forget it, nobody can open the backup.

With sync on, your other devices, or your vault recovery code, can bring your vault to a new device. We can't recover your vault without your recovery code. If you lose every device and the code, nobody can get your vault back: not us, and not Apple.

If you choose Device-Only, there is no copy of your vault on our servers, so your recovery code can't bring it back either. Only your other devices, or an encrypted backup you made, can.

Anyone who knows your device's passcode can open SealNest on it. Keep your passcode private. Saved scans stay on the device where you saved them, and aren't in backups, so keep the paper too.

Your account

You need an account only for sync, sharing and the paid plans. You must be 13 or older to have your own account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.

  • Use an email address that is yours and that you control. Whoever controls it can sign in to your account. Signing in never opens your vault, but it shows your devices and your plan.
  • Turn on the authenticator for more protection, and keep your account recovery codes somewhere safe. They are different from your vault recovery code.
  • One account per person. You are responsible for what happens through your account and your devices. If you think someone else is using your account, remove their device and tell us.

Plans, subscriptions and the free trial

Free costs nothing and covers your phone. Personal ($39.99 a year, or $3.99 a month) adds every device and sharing. Family ($59.99 a year, or $5.99 a month) is Personal for up to 6 people. What each plan includes is listed on our home page and in the app. Prices are in US dollars and may not include tax.

  • Apple bills you. You buy a plan through Apple with your Apple Account, and Apple takes the payment.
  • It renews automatically. A subscription renews at the end of each month or year, at the price then in effect, until you cancel. Apple charges you within the 24 hours before each period ends.
  • The free trial. The yearly plans start with a free trial of 14 days for new subscribers, once per Apple Account. When it ends, your subscription starts and you are charged, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
  • Cancelling. Cancel any time in your iPhone's Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then SealNest (Apple's steps). Or, in SealNest, open Settings, tap your account, then Manage Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before a period ends to avoid the next charge. Your plan stays until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app, or your account, doesn't cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com. We can't cancel or refund an Apple subscription for you.
  • Changing plans. Moving up from Personal to Family starts at once, and Apple refunds the unused part. Moving down, or between monthly and yearly, starts when your current period ends.
  • Price changes. If a price goes up, Apple tells you first and, where the law requires it, asks you to agree.
  • One bill for the family. Family covers the person who pays and up to 5 other people they invite in SealNest. It is not shared through Apple's Family Sharing.

If a paid plan ends, nothing you saved is taken away. Every device keeps syncing for 30 days while you choose which devices stay on Free. After that, the others stop syncing. Nothing on any device is deleted.

Sharing and Family

  • You choose who you share with. Anyone you share something with can see it, copy it and keep it, so share only with people you trust. When a share ends, it leaves their SealNest, but we can't undo what they already saw or copied.
  • Invite only people you know, who expect to hear from you. Don't use invitations to send anyone unwanted messages.
  • The owner of a shared group decides who is in it, and can remove people.
  • A parent or guardian who keeps a kid's profile is responsible for it. Hand a profile over to a child's own account only when the child is 13 or older, and you agree to them having an account.

Information from outside sources

Some of what SealNest shows comes from outside sources, and we pass it on as it is:

These sources can be incomplete or out of date, and we don't promise they are right.

The rules

Use SealNest only for lawful purposes, and only for your own information and information you are allowed to keep. Don't:

If an account goes unused

If no device signs in or syncs for 2 years, we email you three warnings, then delete the locked copy of your vault from our servers, as our Privacy Policy describes. Nothing on your devices is touched.

Ending

You can stop using SealNest any time. You can delete your account in the app.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts SealNest or the people who use it at risk. Where we can, we will tell you first. Closing an account never deletes what is on your devices.

Changes to SealNest

We may change, add or remove features. If we remove something you pay for, we will tell you before the change.

Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms, and is not responsible for SealNest, what is in it, or supporting it. We are. Questions and claims about SealNest come to us.

No promises beyond these terms

We work hard to keep SealNest reliable and secure, but no software is perfect. As far as the law allows, SealNest is provided "as is", without promises beyond the ones in these terms. That includes any promise that it will always be available, will be free of errors, or will keep every item safe from every kind of loss.

Limits on our responsibility

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost profits, or for losing data you could have kept in a backup. If we are responsible for a loss, the most we will pay is the greater of what you paid us for SealNest in the 12 months before it happened, and $50.

Some places don't allow these limits. If you live in one, they apply only as far as the law there allows. Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for fraud, gross negligence or anything else the law doesn't allow to be limited.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, USA, apart from their rules about which law applies.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, we will update the date at the top. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using SealNest after that, the new terms apply.
